Help, this city is no longer safe for us
A gathering of about fifty women under the banner of Fearless Karnataka/Nirbhaya Karnataka staged a protest outside the Police Commissioner's office on Monday, demanding safety for women in the city. The group was protesting a series of attacks on young women in the city.
The attacks, the protestors said, have been similar and were triggered by how women dress or carry themselves.
The women, holding placards informing passers-by of the provisions of Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code (assault on a woman with the intention of outraging her modesty), were granted a brief audience with police commissioner Shankar Bidari, who said said that three instances of assault on women did not comprise a law and order problem in the city.
