Health tourism under the scanner
The government of Britain is keeping a strict eye on the number of foreign tourists who come to the country for NHS treatment.
This is being done because of the rising risk of health tourism.
It's compulsory for visitors to have health insurance. The ones who refuse cooperation with the authorities are denied treatment. There is also a ban on the entry of foreign nationals who have outstanding debts because of their previous NHS treatment. These are the major precautions that are listed.
The government claims that it is only taking a safety step, which not only takes care of the health benefits but also in the long run shall save £6m to £20m.
While the human right organizations have damned the decisions, the British Medical Association has given its support saying, "The BMA appreciates that the NHS does not have infinite resources and that there is a need to restrict services to patients who are eligible to receive them."
