Hasina hopes Bangladesh's new cabinet in first week New Year
Dhaka - Bangladesh's prime minister-elect Sheikh Hasina Wazed said Wednesday she hoped her new cabinet would be sworn in to office within the first week of the New Year.
"I hope the oath taking ceremony will take place within the first week of January after President's invitation to do so," Hasina told reporters after a meeting with President Iajuddin Ahmed at the presidential Bangabhaban palace in the evening.
It was her first meeting with the president to after her Awami League-led alliance won a landslide victory in Monday's parliamentary elections to restore democracy, ending two years rule of an army- backed government.
She also met with the head of the interim administration Fakhruddin Ahmed and discussed the latest political situation.
Meanwhile a Bangababhan spokesman said the swearing-in ceremony of the new cabinet will be arranged in the shortest possible time after the elections results are published in an official gazette.
The president congratulated Hasina on her victory. (dpa)
