Haryana spearheads drive against female foeticide

Haryana spearheads drive against female foeticideChandigarh, Dec 12 - As part of its drive to curb female foeticide, authorities in Haryana have seized 114 ultrasound machines and suspended and cancelled registration of 245 ultrasound centres.

The registration was suspended or cancelled for violating various provisions of the Pre-Natal Diagnostic Technique (PNDT) Act in the last few weeks.

"The Haryana government is all set to curb female foeticide. Besides seizing machines and cancelling registration, so far nearly 15 doctors and other people involved in female foeticide or sex determination tests have been convicted under PNDT Act," Haryana Health Minister Geeta Bhukal said.

"All the appropriate authorities have been directed to play a pro-active role in conducting raids to nab the clinics which violate the PNDT Act," he said. (IANS)
