H1N1 detection kit developed by Indian companies

H1N1 detection kit developed by Indian companiesWith the number of swine flu still augmenting on daily basis, the country has developed its own swine flu detection kit. The major reason for this development has been the ever increasing cases of Swine flu in the country as around 548 new cases were recorded last week only.

The development of indigenous swine flu detection kit has been developed by three Indian companies. These companies are Defence Research and Development Organisation, Imperial Life Sciences and Ocimum.

Interestingly currently India imports these kits from US from a company named Applied Biosystems and Swiss firm Roche Diagnostics. This makes them quite expensive and out of reach of common man.

But the newly found home developed kits will be just one third in terms of cost as compared to the imported kits. The Union health ministry also mentioned that all the companies that were conducting experiments to develop these kits were given testing protocol and guidelines regarding the evaluation of their products.

It was also noticed that India was not only importing these high priced HINI testing kits but for each negative test, the cost incurred by the country was around Rs 5,000 and for positive test it came out as much as Rs
10,000. But now it would come down as much as by 20 times.
