Gut to miss World Cup start after bad training fall

Lara-GutSaas-Fee, Switzerland  - Swiss skier Lara Gut will miss the start of the World Cup alpine ski season after dislocating her hip in a training accident on Tuesday.

Gut, 18, fell badly during a giant-slalom practice at Saas-Fee, damaging her right hip.

She was taken by helicopter initially to a hospital at nearby Visp where the hip was readjusted. She was was then transferred to Berne for further tests.

Gut, who won two silver medals at the world championships in Val d'Isere in February, is likely to be out of action for at least a month. It means she will miss the World Cup season start in Soelden, Austria on October 24.(dpa)
