In his declaration, Union Minister of State for Corporate Affairs and Minority Affairs Salman Khurshid said that impoverishment has decreased during the last few years but the fast growing population should be controlled.

Mr. Khurshid said, "Poverty has reduced during past some years in the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government but the rapid increasing population should be controlled."

About Naxalism, the minister stated that Union Home Minister P Chidambaram was a competent leader and trusted that he would figure out the country's major concern shortly.

''I am not in a situation to speak much about the Naxal problem in the country as Congress president Sonia Gandhi has expressed her detailed views to the people. But I must say that Mr Chidambaram is a capable minister and he would find a solution of this problem,'' Mr. Khurshid added.

Appreciating the accomplishments of UPA administration, Mr. Khurshid said that the government has launched many plans for the uplift of poor like Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS), loan wavier to farmers, BPL card scheme, Health Insurance Scheme amond other things.
