Greenpeace reveals its latest Guide to Greener Electronics; Nokia scores top position The non-governmental organization striving for protection and conservation of environment – Greenpeace on Wednesday revealed the twelfth edition of its quarterly Guide to Greener Electronics scorecard, which ranks 17 companies manufacturing personal computers, cell phones, televisions, and gaming consoles, on the basis of their achievements of environmental goals and their accomplishment regarding e-waste, climate change, and use of toxic chemicals.

In the Greenpeace’s latest Guide to Greener Electronics, Nokia, with 7.45 points out of 10 points, has been ranked at the top position, while Samsung with 7.1 points and Sony Ericsson with 6.5 points have been ranked second and third respectively.

LG Electronics with 5.7 points has been ranked at 4th place; Toshiba with 5.5 points at 5th place; and Motorola with 5.5 points has got 6th place. Philips with 5.3 points has fallen from 4th to 7th position; and Sharp with 5.3 points has gone up from 9th to joint 7th place. Acer with 4.9 points, and Panasonic with 4.9 points have been able to score positions in top-top.   

Apple with 4.7 points has dropped to 12th position, and Sony with 4.5 points has dropped from 5th to 12th place. Dell with 3.9 points is at 13th place; Hewlett-Packard (HP) with 3.5 points is at 14th position; Microsoft with 2.5 points has been ranked at 15th place; Lenovo with 2.5 points is at 16th place; while Fujitsu with 2.4 points; and Nintendo with 1 point are at the bottom of the list.

The companies have been rated on the basis of their achievements in – reducing the climate impacts of products and operations, – recycling and recalling unwanted electronics, – and elimination toxic materials from their products.
