Green Meadows raid state reserve cops
Green Meadows thrash State Reserve Police Force (group I) 4-0 to enter the second round of the Late Professor Shardul B Gaikwad Invitational Hockey Tournament, at the Ammunition Factory ground here on Monday.
Mahesh Bendre drew the first blood to give Green Meadows the much awaited lead. Green Meadows converted two back to back penalty corners through Atul Kalate and Sachin Bhondwe respectively. Prashant Gaikwad scored the fourth goal to see Green Meadows script an easy win. SRPF made some deadly attacks in both the halves but was bravely defended by custodian Avdhut Solankar. Green Meadows will take on their Fergusson College road counterpart Kids XI in their next round.
Rajesh Pillay Academy (RPA) beat Hockey Lovers 2-0 after the latter put up a good show against the mighty former. RPA missed several scoring opportunities and luckily escaped some close goal conceding attacks. Vijay Singh scored the first goal for RPA followed by Sanjay Pollaya in the 25th and 29th minute respectively. Railway Police made an easy meal of Shilloh Sports Club ‘B’ 8-0 to surge ahead in the tournament.
Centre-forward Santosh Patil did the damage by scoring a hat-trick whereas Rajesh Musale and Sudhir Sutke scored two goals each.
