Greek police arrest 11 as child porn ring is busted

GreeceAthens- Greek police said Monday they had arrested 11 people, among them an Orthodox priest, for alleged participation in an international child pornography ring that distributed images of children as young as six months.

Authorities said they began infiltrating the group, whose members number 24, after being notified by Interpol. British authorities said they had been following the international ring that offered more than 200 sites to "VIP" members.

Greek police said they were looking at 13 more people suspected of involement in trading pornography, which involved some victims who had been chained, and some as young as six months.

The men accused included a 44-year-old Greek Orthodox priest from the Peloponnese who was arrested by police in Athens.

Other arrests were made in Athens, the northern port city of Thessaloniki, the islands of Mytilini and Mykonos and the cities of Patras, Orestriada and Preveza in central Greece.

The network took credit card payments over the Internet charging 79,85 dollars for a period of 30 days for access to pornographic images of children being sexually abused. (dpa)
