The government of India on Wednesday stated that it is working to draft the regulations of the IT Act (Amended) 2008 – the Act that supervises information technology - related activities all across the nation. The IT Special Secretary R Chandrasekhar said, “We are in advanced stages of drafting. Notification of these will be issued in the next few months.”

Passed by Parliament in December 2008, the IT Amendment Bill 2008 is aimed to bring a great deal of modifications in the current Indian cyber law, called the Information Technology Act, 2000.

The IT Amendment Bill 2008 includes regulations associated with the use of computers, computer systems, computer networks, and data & information, in the electronic format. The IT Amendment Bill 2008 also covers several aspects related to electronic authentication, digital signatures, cyber crimes and liability of network service providers. The IT Amendment Bill 2008 also includes regulations regarding activities like hacking and pornography.

Answering a question about the extension of Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) clause, Chandrasekhar replied that it was a policy decision. He said, "The Ministry understands that the STPI clause is an important one, also because of the current economic situation. But it is still a policy issue and I would not like to comment on that.”

Chandrasekhar made the statements while speaking at the launch of a website – secureyourpc.in – developed by Computer Emergency Response Team India (CERT), in collaboration with and Microsoft India.
