Government might take action as Twitter refuses to act
Micro blogging site, Twitter might face the ire of authorities in India after it said that it cannot remove some of the web-pages as requested due to some technical difficulties.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the Department of Electronics and IT (DEIT) are not convinced with the response from the company and are considering an action against the company. Officials believe that the micro blogging site is not cooperating with the government fully and say that its response to requests for removal of some sensitive WebPages have not been encouraging.
The company maintains that it is not government by the Indian law as its servers are not based in the country. The authorities in the country say that the company is failing to understand the seriousness of the situation and if it does not cooperate with requests and it might face action from the government.
The DEIT had asked the company to take down around 30 WebPages from the website and displayed morphed pictures, fake images and other inflammatory content that was aimed at inciting violence in the north east and other parts of the country.
The authorities are also waiting for the company to remove accounts that are similar to PMO’s official account but carry objectionable content.
