Google taking orders for Nexus 4 wireless charger

Google taking orders for Nexus 4 wireless charger Four months after the October 2012 introduction of the Nexus 4, Google has now revealed in a recent announcement that it has started taking orders for the promised wireless charger for the device.

The impressive wireless charging accessory for the Nexus 4 is now available for orders on the Google Play store at a price of $60. The wireless charger is an apparent indication of the future of device charging, chiefly because of the fact that it charges the Nexus 4 without requiring any kind of plugging in.

However, the biggest drawback of the Nexus 4 wireless charger is that it relies on so-called "induction charging" which, as of now, is comparatively much slower than microUSB charging. As such, the wireless charger takes around 4 hours to fully charge the Nexus 4, while microUSB charging takes nearly 3 hours.

Meanwhile, though Google has finally made the Nexus 4 wireless charger available for orders, the company has not yet given any specific timeline for its projected shipping date; and has merely mentioned that the accessory "ships soon."

With the Nexus 4 using the Qi wireless charging technology, as does the Nokia Lumia 920, the wireless charger for the Google device is fairly akin in appearance to the original Touchstone for the Palm Pre, which also used inductive charging, though it was not the Qi technology.
