Google Street View adds 250,000 miles in biggest update yet

Google Street View adds 250,000 miles in biggest update yetIn what will mark the biggest-ever update which Internet search giant Google has announced to its Street View feature, the company recently announced that it is adding over 250,000 miles of roads across 17 countries across the world.

The update underscores a two-fold increase in the number Street View images; thereby giving the users a glimpse of the actual appearance of the places captured by the cameras atop Google's Street View cars which click images of all the things they pass.

According to a list posted on the Google blog on Thursday, the places at which Street View coverage has been expanded include some areas in the US, as well as countries such as Denmark, Japan, Spain, and South Africa.

In addition, the blog post, by Street View program manager Ulf Spitzer, also revealed that Google has extended its Maps feature - which unfolds a 360-degree photographic view of surroundings - in the UK, the US, Canada, Macau, Singapore, Sweden, Thailand, Taiwan, Norway, Italy, and Denmark.

Noting that the updated Street View feature will give the users the opportunity to explore new locations straightway in Google Maps, Spitzer said in the blog post that the new additions will include "parks, city centres, castles and tourist attractions like Catherine Palace and Ferapontov Monastery in Russia, the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall in Taiwan, or Stanley Park in Vancouver."
