Google sends invites for October 29 Android event

Google sends invites for October 29 Android eventInternet search giant Google has sent out invitations to the media for its upcoming Android event, which is scheduled to be held in New York City on October 29 --- which, coincidentally, is the same day when Microsoft will debut its Windows Phone 8 software on Nokia, HTC and Samsung devices in San Francisco!

While Microsoft had announced the mentioned event two weeks back, the Google invitations have been distributed recently. Going by the invites, the timing of the Google event - to be held at Basketball City in New York's Pier 36 - is barely three hours ahead of the Microsoft event.

With Google's only revelation about its October 29 event being that the event will be an Android themed one, the colorful invitations dispatched by the company to the media come with the following tagline: "The Playground Is Open."

The word which clearly stands out in the tagline is "Playground"; more so because in an earlier-this-year move, Google's Android Market app store was renamed as the Google Play Store. Ever since, almost everything in the Google app store centers on the word `play'; with the company's media consumption apps having been dubbed Google Play Music, Google Play Movies, Google Play Books, and the like.

Since Google sells content and apps as well as devices - such as Galaxy Nexus or Nexus 7 - in its Play Store, it is being speculated that the company may likely unveil a new Nexus device at its forthcoming event.
