Google’s ad model gets a clean chit

Google’s ad model gets a clean chitEurope's biggest court has given a clean chit to Google's advertisement-generation model and said that the company has not infringed any kind of trademark laws.

Companies like Louis Vuitton and others had accused the search giant of selling keywords to trigger ads, which they said were undermining their brand image.

On Tuesday, the Court of Justice of the European Union said that advertisers were allowed to buy keywords, even the ones which were identical to trademarks, and could use them unless it confused a consumer.

And in cases where they did, the case should be filed against the advertisers and not against Google, till the point it did make the necessary changes.

Looking at the decision, experts believe that this is a good decision. While on one hand it is saving the brand owners by protecting their trademarks on the other it is also supporting Google.

Now Google need not make changes in its ad model.

The decision has also authenticated the system of ad functioning followed by Yahoo! and AdWorld. They sell ad slots and also allow a brand owner to protect trademark through a complicated, though supportive system.
