Google acquires people classifying algorithms developer, KatangoInternet giant, Google has acquired a startup, Katango, which is the developer of advanced people-sorting algorithm.

Google plans to use the technology to improve its Google+ Circles features in its social platform that was launched more than three months ago.

Katango was founded a little over a year ago to develop social algorithms that improve people’s online social interaction,” Katango said in an announcement.

It also expressed excitement on joining the Google+ team. It noted that the Google+ is growing at a great speed and it is the right time to joint ht time and contribute to improving the circles feature on the platform.

Katango, which was the first firm by Kleiner Perkins sFund, was earlier known as CafeBots. It offers an iPhone app allowing users to manage their contacts across Facebook, email and SMS. It has developed advanced algorithms for social organization. The company uses social cues in order to group a user’s friends and colleagues. It relies on a more advanced technology than the one used by Facebook.

Google+ Circles allows users to share content with different groups such as friends, family or colleagues. “We were impressed by the Katango team’s innovative approach to making your social circles smarter, and we think they’ll be a great addition to the Google+ team,” said a Google spokesperson.
