Give security to Zardari on par with Musharraf, demands PPP

Islamabad, Feb 12: PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali ZardariPresident Pervez MusharrafThe Pakistan People’s Party has demanded “A class” security for the party’s co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari on par with President Pervez Musharraf and caretaker Prime Minister Mohammedmian Soomro.

"As the co-chairman of the party Zardari is scheduled to arrive in Punjab to lead the party campaign and it is necessary for the caretakers to arrange security for him as described in the ‘Blue Book’,” PPP Finance Secretary Senator Dr Babar Awan told reporters.

Babar Awan said that being a leader of one of the largest political parties of Pakistan Zardari was being provided “C class”.

Any attempt to rig the polls would be regarded declaration of war against the people and an attack on the federation, he warned.

“A mechanism should be adopted to keep the vote secure within polling station on polling day,” The News quoted Babar Awan, as saying.

He also said that the deteriorating security scenario in Pakistan was being debated in the world and there are chances that the Musharraf regime may reap benefits from the environment of fear and scare to keep Pakistanis away from the electoral process.

Commenting on his statement in which he termed Zardari as the party's only choice for the PM slot, Babar Awan said that it was his personal feelings and the party's central executive committee should take decisions taking into consideration the interest of the country as well as the party members' sentiments.
