Germany beat France 1-0 to advance to WC semifinals

Mats-HummelsLondon, July 05 - Germany became the first nation to advance to the World Cup semifinals as they defeated France in the quarterfinal at the Maracana.

Germany's centre back Mat Hummels provided his side with an early lead with a header that proved to be the winning goal for Joachim Low's side as they defeated France 1-0.

According to the BBC, Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer gave another faultless performance as he deprived France of a chance to put the ball past him into the net.

Germany will now face Brazil in the World Cup semifinals in Belo Horizonte on Tuesday.

France football team coach Didier Deschamps said that although their adventure in Brazil ends here and they are sad, disappointed and frustrated, they will move on.

Deschamps added that France created chances to score and could have been more clinical, but Neuer had a good game.

Meanwhile, Low said that Germany played well with a compact defense, adding that France had some long balls against them but they did a classy job taking care of those. (ANI)
