MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 1 - Gus Frerotte passed for one touchdown and ran for another Sunday, helping Minnesota assume sole possession of the NFC North with a 34-14 win over Chicago.

The Vikings had entered the game in a three-way tie with the Bears and Green Bay, who fell to Carolina.

Frerotte earned a spot in the NFL and Minnesota record books when he hit former Bear Bernard Berrian for a team-best 99-yard score late in the second quarter that came on the first play after Minnesota stopped Chicago on four straight tries to get into the end zone from the 1-yard line. The Bears had led 7-3 at the time.

The play tied the longest from scrimmage in NFL history; 10 other teams have accomplished the feat.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Nov. 30  -- Lane Kiffin, who was fired by the Oakland Raiders, will be introduced Monday as the new football coach of the University of Tennessee, the school announced.

Kiffin will succeed Phillip Fulmer, who has coached the Vols for 17 years. Fulmer announced earlier this month that he would not be back next season.

The 33-year-old Kiffin was let go by the Raiders Oct. 1. He had a record of 5-15 at Oakland.

Tennessee Athletic Director Mike Hamilton said university officials have been meeting with prospective coaches in recent weeks and decided on Kiffin.

SHENZHEN, China, Nov. 30  -- Henrik Stenson and Robert Karlsson combined to shoot 9-under-par 63 Sunday, helping Sweden bag a four-stroke win at the World Cup of Golf in Shenzhen, China.

Sweden completed the event at 27-under 261, and won it for the first time since 1991.

Sunday's format was foursomes or alternate shot.

"It's a great honor to play for your country, and obviously even better when you win," Stenson said. "Sweden only won it once before in 1991 so it was about time that we changed that."

NEW YORK, Nov. 30  -- New York Giants star Plaxico Burress, who apparently shot himself in the leg, will surrender to police Monday, The (Newark, N. J.) Star-Ledger reported.

Burress was hospitalized after the apparent accidental weekend shooting at a New York nightclub. He will report to the New York Police Department's 17th precinct, the newspaper said. No warrant had been issued for his arrest, The Star-Ledger said Sunday.

Police sources said Burress might face felony weapons charges, the New York Daily News reported.

An attorney representing the NFL receiver was trying to avoid charges being brought against his client, police sources said.

MELBOURNE,  Nov. 30 -- Rod Pampling beat fellow Australian Marcus Fraser on the third playoff hole Sunday to win the Australian Masters golf tournament in Melbourne.

Both players finished 72 holes with totals of 2-under-par 276.

After his birdie at 14, Fraser parred the final four holes, and Pampling made pars at the final three holes after a birdie at the 15th.

Fraser, who birdied five of the first six holes, shot 7-under 65 and reached the playoff after beginning the day in tenth place, five shots back of co-leaders Michael Sim and Robert Allenby, both Australians.

Pampling was alone in fourth place.
