10,000 CDs containing Guru Granth Sahib hymns to be distributed free in MalaysiaKuala Lumpur, Oct. 18 : To mark the 300th anniversary of the Guru Granth Sahib, a production house in Malaysia has decided to distribute 10,000 compact discs containing hymns and chants from the Guru Granth Sahib free of cost in the country and in other Southeast Asian countries.

‘Guru Granth Sahib—the Guru eternal’ book released on tercentenary celebrations

New Delhi, Oct. 13: Marking the tercentenary of the `Gurgaddi Divas'' of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, a book `Guru Granth Sahib – the Guru eternal'' was released here recently in the national capital.

The book `Guru Granth Sahib – the Eternal Guru'' seeks to spread the message of the Sikh Gurus and Sufi saints among masses.

The book narrates as well as depicts the significance of the holy Sikh scripture.

Sikhs demand Pak should allow celebration of all the eight festivals

Lahore, Oct 8: Indian Sikhs have demanded of the Pakistan government to allow the community to celebrate all the eight major festivals in the country. At present the Pakistan Government allows the community to celebrate only six festivals, except the two, viz. the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Gubind Singh and Saka Nankana Sahib.

Putting forth this demand, Jathedar Gopal Singh Janiya, a member of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandak Committee (SGPC), Amritsar thanked the Pakistan government for increasing the number of Sikh events from four to six.

Janiya is the party leader of Sikh pilgrims that reached Pakistan on Monday to commemorate the 474th birthday of the fourth guru in Sikhism, Guru Ram Das at Chuna Mandi Gurdwara.

Guru Ram DassAmritsar, October 6 : Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandhak Committee (SGPC), the premiere governing body of Sikhs, has today sent a delegation of nearly 100 Sikh pilgrims to Pakistan to attend the 474th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Ram Das, the 4th great Guru of Sikhs.

This is for the first time since partition of India that a delegation of Sikhs is visiting Pakistan especially for birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Ram Das. The devotees will mark the occasion at Gurdwara Chuna Mandi, the birthplace of Guru Ram Dass, situated in Lahore on October 9.

Muslims object to violation of Ramadan rules on Brit TV show Eastenders

"Eastenders" TV ShowLondon, Oct. 3: The British Muslim community has raised strong objections to a Muslim character in the popular television show “Eastenders” eating during Ramadan.

Complaints poured in after Masood Ahmed (Nitin Ganatra) was seen eating a chapatti in his shop.

Muslims should fast between sunrise and sunset in the month-long religious festival.

When confronted on the show by Jane Beale (Laurie Brett), Masood said he was a "bad person". He said he found it difficult to fast because his job required him to sell food all day.

Hindus pray for salvation of their ancestors in Kolkata

Durga MaaKolkata, Sept 29 : Thousands of Hindus gathered on the banks of the Ganges river in Kolkata and prayed for the salvation of their ancestors on the occasion of ''Mahalya'' on Monday.

According to the Hindu almanac, ''Mahalaya'' marks the conclusion of ''Piter Paksha'', the fortnight during which people hold special religious rituals for the deceased kin particularly ancestors and heralds ''Devi Paksha'' or the fortnight-long festival of Hindu goddess Durga.

Several devouts thronged the river bank to perform religious rituals, make offerings to their ancestors and to take a holy dip.
