Face Transplant Patient Doing WellDr. Bohdan Pomahac of Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, the surgeon who led the country's second-ever face transplant operation said he is "cautiously optimistic" over the recovery of the patient and that "so far he is doing very, very well."

Pomahac and his team in a 17 hour surgery Thursday replaced the man's nose, palate, upper lip, and some skin, muscles and nerves with those of a dead donor. He added that the man who was severely injured in a freak accident several years ago has so far chosen to keep his identity a secret, is recovering as expected.

Heidi May, an epidemiologist at the Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah, and lead author of the study said, "Our data suggest that depression is an important and emerging risk factor for heart failure among patients with coronary heart disease."

Rotary Plans Polio Walk; To Spend $200 Mln By 2012 In a declaration, John Kenny, Rotary International president-elect said, “Rotary has committed 200 million dollars to polio eradication in the next three years and we hope to see the world free of polio by 2012.”

Kenny, who was in Pune for two-days, made this announcement during a press meeting on Friday.

Kenny also said that all projects backed by Rotary in the zone will never be short of funds and Rotary has committed $200 million to polio annihilation within the next 3 years and wish a polio free world by 2012.

Mumbai Becomes First Indian City To Have Bone Marrow DatabaseThus far, foreign countries had marrow donor registries, but now, India has also registered its name in the same list.

India’s Mumbai first became the first to join the league with the Marrow Donor Registry India (MDRI).

MDRI will be a database of bone marrow donors and the donor marrow can be used treating patients fighting life-threatening blood disorders in India or abroad.

Bone marrow transplants are still a rarity in India, mainly because no there’re no registries.
