London, Jan 29 : Women smell of onions while men are more likely to whiff of cheese, says scientists after "sniffing" both sexes' armpits.

The bizarre research, which investigated the distinctive armpit odours of men and women, was conducted by scientists at Firmenich, a company in Geneva that researches flavours and smells for the food and perfume industry.

To reach the conclusion, researchers took samples of armpit sweat from 24 men and 25 women after they had spent time in a sauna or 15 minutes on an exercise bike, reports the Telegraph.

Coimbatore, Jan 28 : Coconut and palm growers spearheaded an agitation in Tamil Nadu demanding the State Government to lift a ban on production and sale of ''Toddy'', a traditional drink of the state.

''Toddy'', a local drink extracted from either a coconut tree or a Palm tree flower has been banned in the state since 1987 for being an alcoholic drink.

The farmers want the government to exempt toddy from the list of alcohol products banned in the State.

Kamptanda Village (UP), Jan 28 : With tigers prowling around, the scared people of Kamptanda village near Kishanpur sanctuary in Uttar Pradesh preparing to vacate their village and go to a safer place.

The proposal to shift out of the village originally came from the villagers after a tiger killed three children in the village. Fearing for their lives the villagers sent the proposal to the district magistrate of the area and also to the wild life department.

A significant shift in the incidence of suicide bombing has taken place away from Iraq and towards Pakistan and Afghanistan over the last three years.

London, Jan 28 : Cows with names make 3.4 percent more milk in a year than those animals who're not named, say UK scientists.

The research, which involved 516 dairy farmers, was conducted by Dr Catherine Douglas and Dr Peter Rowlinson at Newcastle University.

The study found that treating the animals as individuals also increased production.

The average amount of milk produced by a cow over its annual 10 month lactation period is 13,198 pints (7,500 litres). Those cows with names had an average higher milk yield of 454 pints (258 litres), reports the Telegraph.

Ice breaker Terry Fox succeed to clear a path for the stricken CTMA Vacancier with 300 people on board on Tuesday afternoon.

However, a second ship, the Georges-Alexandre-Lebel, a cargo ship owned by Canada9s COGEMA shipping company, remained caught in the ice off Matane.
