A mobile multi-media van ‘RTI on Wheels’, which was launched to make people aware about the Right to Information (RTI) Act in remote areas, has completed a year in the state on March 17.

The Gujarat State Information Commission, Sardar Patel Institute of Public Administration (SPIPA) and Mahiti Adhikar Gujarat Pahel (MAGP) jointly launched ‘RTI on Wheels’ in 2008.

In a period of 12-months, RTI on wheels reached about 80,000 people in 450 villages and 13 cities.

Kathmandu  - At least eight people were injured Thursday when two bombs exploded outside a college in southern Nepal, police said.

The bombs went off as students gathered outside Thakur Ram College in the town of Birgunj, about 90 kilometres south of Kathmandu.

There were no immediate claims of responsibility for the blasts, police said.

"The bombs exploded just as students prepared to vote to chose their representatives in college elections," the Birgunj police office said. "Eight students received shrapnel wounds."

Washington, Mar. 19: The Chinese intelligence service spends most of its time not only trying to steal secrets from overseas but also on ways to bolster Communist Party rule by repressing religious and political dissent internally, claims a spy who has defected to the United States.

"In some sense you can say that intelligence work between two countries is just like war but without the fire," Li Fengzhi told The Washington Times in an interview aided by an interpreter.

Li worked for years as an Ministry of State Security intelligence officer inside China before defecting to the United States, where is he awaiting a response to his request for political asylum.

New Delhi, Mar 19: The investiture ceremony for conferring the Kirti Chakra on train driver N. N. Bora posthumously will be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan today.

Bora, a train driver of the Lumding division in Northeast Frontier Railway, was awarded the second most important gallantry award posthumously for saving the lives of 34 railway men on board a special train, which after leaving Mupa station in Lumding – Badarpur MG hill section of Northeast Frontier Railway was under heavy fire by militants.

The train was coming out of a tunnel at the time of the attack. Bora, subsequently succumbed to his injuries. He did an excellent job in reversing the passenger special train inside the tunnel and saved the lives.

Mexico City - Once a week, vans loaded with reams of material to be stitched into trousers and shirts for US retailers, drive through the muddy streets of the Los Reyes-La Paz neighbourhood on the outskirts of Mexico City.

The fabric is distributed to the area's many seamstresses, who have a week to each make about 50 trousers and shirts. For sewing all day for some of the biggest and most expensive department stores, these women earn about 4,000 pesos (283 dollars) a month.

Wellington  - A tourist from the Czech Republic was airlifted to hospital on Wednesday after being trapped by falling rocks during a guided tour on New Zealand's Fox Glacier, police said.

The man, in his mid-20s, was seriously injured. Three others with him on the tour organised by the Fox Glacier Guiding company escaped injury.
