Random breath tests introduced in Hong Kong drunk driving crackdown Hong Kong  - Police in Hong Kong were Sunday preparing to carry out random breath tests on drivers for the first time as tough new laws against drinking and driving come into effect.

From midnight on Sunday, drivers will be stopped at roadblocks and given random breath tests to find out if they are over the limit, a police spokesman said.

Motorists convicted of driving while drunk can be jailed for up to three years, banned from driving and fined a maximum of 3,200 US dollars under the legislation which comes into effect Monday.

Mangalore police arrests two men for assaulting MLA's daughter

New Delhi, Feb 7: The Mangalore police on Saturday arrested two people for attacking Shruti, daughter of Kerala''s CPM MLA and her friend.

The MLA''s daughter along with her friend was kidnapped and beaten up allegedly by Bajrang Dal activists.

Verifying the arrests, Inspector General of Mangalore A M Prasad said," We have identified a few people involved in the incident and two boys have been picked up...."

The police have also identified four other culprits who are likely to be arrested soon.

"We are trying to find out whether the attackers belonged to Bajrang Dal or Sri Ram Sene," said a police officer

Suspect accused of Hong Kong prostitute murders appears in court

Hong Kong - A 23-year-old man accused of murdering two Hong Kong prostitutes appeared in court Saturday following a wave of killings that terrified the city's sex workers.

Hong Tze-yee is accused of killing a 47-year-old prostitute from Hong Kong in the apartment where she worked on January 10 and a 38-year-old Thai prostitute in her flat on January 31.

Both women were murdered as they worked alone by a killer who posed as a client and stole money and other items from their apartments.

The murder of a third prostitute killed in a similar fashion on January 11 is still under investigation.

Six-year term for rapist whose tongue was bitten off by victim

Taipei - A Taiwan man, whose tongue was bitten off by the women he tried to rape, has been sentenced to six years in prison, a newspaper reported Saturday.

Lee Tang-hsiang, 35, attacked the woman in 2008 in Chiayi City in central Taiwan and was sentenced on Friday in Chiayi District Court on a conviction for attempted rape, the Apple Daily said.

On October 17, Lee was riding his motorbike about 4 am in Chiayi when he saw the woman on a motor-ped. Lee, whose criminal record includes previous sex crimes and drug use, rode alongside the victim, pulled her blouse and skirt and eventually caused her to fall off her motorbike.

Three sect leaders sentenced for inciting incest

Taipei - Three Taiwanese have been sentenced by a local court for posing as religious masters and forcing a man to have sex with his three daughters, a newspaper said Saturday.

The three defendants - Chang Yao-ming, Chen Ming-tsun and Hsu Su- chun (female) - set up a sect several years ago in Pingtung County in south Taiwan, the Liberty Times said.

Calling their sect the "Save the World and True Life Religion," they posed as religious masters and claimed they had the power to cure illnesses.

In 2005, a local man sought help for his sick wife at the temple run by the trio, the paper said.

Muslim militants free abducted lending firm employee in Philippines Zamboanga City, Philippines  - Muslim militants on Friday freed unharmed an abducted employee of a lending firm in the southern Philippines after three days of captivity, a military spokeswoman said.

Ammad Sali was one of two of the firm's employees abducted Tuesday in Sumisip town in Basilan province, 900 kilometres south of Manila.

Sali was recovered by troops in the village of Mahayhay in nearby Maluso town Friday morning, said Lieutenant Esteffani Cacho, a regional military spokeswoman.
