Death of kin, illness and depression push Santa Cruz resident over the edge

A 64-year-old woman committed suicide by jumping off her building terrace on Tuesday morning in Santa Cruz west. According to the police, Hansaben Chandrakant Parekh was suffering from depression after the deaths of her husband and son.

Parekh, a resident of Ganga Nivas building in Khotwadi in Santa Cruz, lived with her daughter-in-law Mamta. On Tuesday, at around 11.30 am when Mamta went to a nearby bank to withdraw money, Parekh climbed up to the terrace of their four-storey building and leapt off. Parekh suffered severe head injuries and was declared dead before arrival when rushed to the Cooper Hospital.

The MBA, who called himself Raj — an associate vice president of an MNC in Pune, was nabbed by the Cyber Crime Investigation Cell (CCIC) of Mumbai Police on Tuesday. Charges of rape, cheating and molestation were slapped on him, and he was remanded in police custody till March 9.

Vashi cops have launched a manhunt to nab a Mumbra-based Computer Engineer Yunus for allegedly duping city residents of Rs 48,000. The accused had created a fake net banking website of Axis Bank and sent messages to many account holders mentioning that their respective account has some problem. He mentioned another link in the message asking the customers to click the link and check the problem of the account.

No arrests made in Banaswadi murder case

The city police investigating the BPO employee murder case on Tuesday said they have collected concrete clues, which will lead them to the accused persons.

Umesh Krishnan (27), a senior executive of Infosys Pvt Ltd, was smothered to death on Monday at his house in Ramaswamypalya in Banaswadi.

Assistant police commissioner N Narasimhaiah said, “We have clues that will lead us to the accused. We are working towards it and hope to solve the case soon’’.

Police are still maintaining that it is a murder for gain. Umesh was murdered by four unknown people in the presence of his wife Honey Mary, who was injured. Since she is away in Erode, where Umesh’s body was cremated, police have not been able to get more information from her.

One cop set on fire, two beaten up by irate mob

Two separate incidents of crime against policemen were reported in state on Tuesday. In the first incident one constable of Rajasthan Armed Constabulary was set on fire while in another two others were badly beaten up by an accused of a dacoity case, the police said. According to police sources, four youth were having a scuffle with some local shopkeepers at the Chomu bus stand, at around 9 pm on, Monday night. The victim Dana Ram, a constable with the RAC who was posted in the area, intervened and disperse the youth.
