Dubai, Jan. 19 : Sri Lanka will move up two places to fifth in the Reliance Mobile ICC ODI Championship table if it beats Pakistan in all three ODIs coming up in Karachi and Lahore.
According to an ICC media release, Mahela Jayawardena's team currently lies in seventh position following a tour of mixed results in Bangladesh. In a tri-series that also involved Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka lost one match to the home side but later exacted revenge in what was a thrilling and closely fought final.
After making a speedy recovery from last month’s knee surgery, Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds is now looking forward for the next month tour of South Africa.
Commenting over Symonds fitness, team physio, Alex Kountouris said, “I would be disappointed if Andrew wasn't available to go to South Africa.”
“Things are progressing well. At this stage it's hard to say when Andrew will be back but I'd expect it to be somewhere between three to five weeks”, added Kountouris.
Dubai, Jan 19: Sri Lankan players contracted with the ICL can continue to play the domestic matches, according to Sports Minister Gamini Lokuge.
"We have decided to continue with our earlier decision and to allow these players to play at the domestic level. However, they are banned to play at the national level," he said over telephone from Colombo.
Due to the visa-related problems, the authorities of the immigration department at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on Saturday evening detained the dope tainted fast bowler Mohammad Asif. Although the Pakistan High Commission’s intervened in this issue, but the airport authorities deported back Asif.
It is believed that Asif who played for Delhi Daredevils IPL team last season was coming to India to sort out some financial issues with the IPL authorities.
Karachi, Jan 19: Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene has refused to single out spin sensation Ajantha Mendis as the major threat for Pakistan in the one-day series.
The 23-year-old Mendis and his more famous partner Muttiah Muralitharan are tipped to hold the aces against the home team in the three-match series, which starts here from Tuesday, The News reported.
But Jayawardene said Mendis doesn't carry extra burden of expectations.
