Fracking increases gas reserves in the US

Fracking increases gas reserves in the USExperts have said that the new technique for gas extraction, fracking has helped explore new wells and in the United States and has significantly boost the reserves in the country.

Fracking involves creating little explosions underground and then flooding with water and chemicals to obtain gas trapped in shale rocks. There were concerns that the controversial fracking technique for extraction gas trapped under the rocks could damage the environment and pollute the ground water.

Data has showed that there are approximately 1.1 million oil and gas wellsin the US, which is a result of technological advances in the exploration techniques. These techniques have helped boost gas and oil production to its highest level in decades in the country. Major growth has been recorded in natural gas obtained through hydraulic fracturing, which includes injecting immense quantities of water and chemicals into the ground to fracture the rock and release deposits.

Media reports have indicated that the US Carbon Emissions fell to 1994 Levels during 2012 mainly due to fracking and horizontal drilling revolutions in the country. However, environmentalists have warned that the increasing number of wells might affect water suppliers and affect the environment.
