London, January 31 : Footballer Jermain Defoe recently tried to strike a chance with Paris Hilton at a lush London hotel - but failed in his bid.

The striker had reportedly been celebrating the Spurs' 3-1 win over Stoke at the posh Mayfair Hotel when he tried to chat up with the socialite, who apparently was staying at the same hotel.

The 26-year-old, who plays club football for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, was even said to have made attempts to book the suite next to that of the millionaire-heiress but lost out to advanced bookings.

"Paris clearly had no idea who he was but she chatted to him," the Sun quoted a source as saying.

"She enjoyed the attention but wasn't interested in taking it further," the source added. (ANI)
