Five policemen killed in Chhattisgarh Naxal attack
Raipur, Oct 29: Five special police officers (SPOs) were killed in a Naxal attack on a police party about 425 km from here on Monday.
Three others were seriously injured in the incident, while 12 have gone missing, police sources said.
After surrounding the 20-member police party, comprising of four constables and 16 SPOs, a group of about 200 Naxalites opened indiscriminate firing, killing five SPOs, police said.
The incident that took place about five kms from Bijapur District headquarters injured three seriously, including a constable and two special police officers, police added.
The police party was heading from Bijapur to Pallabaya on a road opening operation when the Naxalites attacked.
Naxalites have also run away with some weapons of the security forces, police sources said.
Armed policemen have rushed to the spot.
The Naxal attack in Chhattisgarh comes days after the insurgents opened indiscriminate firing at villagers in Jharkhand's Giridih District killing 17 people, including former Jharkhand Chief Minister Babulal Marandi's son Anup Marandi. (ANI)
