Fire breaks out in military camp in northern Sri LankaColombo  - A fire broke out in the ammunition dump of a military camp in northern Sri Lanka Tuesday evening, causing a number of explosions in the area, a military spokesman said.

The fire broke out in a camp in Vavuniya, 254 kilometres north- east of the capital Colombo.

"There are no reports of any casualties, but I can hear loud explosions going off inside the camp," a journalist based in the area said.

The camp is located in the same district where some 250,000 civilians, displaced by the fighting between the army and Tamil rebels which only ended on May 18, live in government-controlled camps. The camps for the civilians are located some distance from the military camp, officials said.(dpa)
