Questions arouse upon the portability of water purifiers and at the same time pose threat for many of the residents who reside in metros.

It is stated that due to lack of safe drinking water, a huge number of people are opting for water purifiers which is turning out to be a health malady. 

General Manager of Water division, Hindustan Unilever Ltd, Vikram Surendran, said, "We support the views that there should be comprehensive testing done to verify the claims made by different water purifier manufacturers and that appropriate standards need to be developed by the government and industry bodies for water purifiers in general."

Krishnan has also produced a drafted copy to the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India and also to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on this matter.

He went on to say that Indian government is keen to bring out the necessary policy changes and measures to sat benchmarks and monitor portable water purification devices.
