Few takers for domestic cricket in Pakistan

Few takers for domestic cricket in PakistanIslamabad, Oct. 19 : Pakistan might be considered a cricket crazy nation, but domestic cricket doesn't enjoy as much attention as international cricket in the country.

A 17-year-old Muhammad Aamer is eulogised when he gets Sachin Tendulkar caught in slips, but no one cares to watch him perform when he plays for his National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) team in Pakistan's premier first class tournament, the Daily Times.

It has always been like this in Pakistan. Whether it was Zaheer Abbas, Imran Khan, Javed Miandad or Inzamamul Haq. Their fans never bothered to go and watch them play in domestic matches.

During a Pentangular Cup match between the Punjab and Federal Areas teams, in which eight top Pakistan players were representing their respective teams, there were more media personnel than spectators.

The reasons for this gap between Pakistan's domestic and international cricket can be attributed to the Pakistan media and the PCB, which create hype around important international matches, but ignore domestic cricket. (ANI)
