Facebook replaces personal email address with @facebook.com on profiles
World's largest social networking site, Facebook has once again angered its fans by replacing personal email addresses of users on their profiles with a new @facebook.com e-mail address without their consent.
The Menlo Park company had released @facebook.com e-mail addresses in 2010 for a very few number of users. The users were made vanity" Facebook addresses now have their username in the email address while those who did not make any account have been allotted an email address with a random numeric value at the rate of Facebook.
The company believes that the move does not require user consent as it hides personal email addresses and displays a new @Facebook email address. However, the users who wish to display their email addressed publically on their profiles will find it annoying that the changes have been made without their consent.
A Facebook spokesman said the company said that the company had announced in April that it will update email addressed to make them consistent across the platform. "In addition to everyone receiving an address, we're also rolling out a new setting that gives people the choice to decide which addresses they want to show on their timelines," the spokesman said.
The social network also stopped testing a feature called Find Friends Nearby. Find Friends Nearby is a location based service that allows users to identify other Facebook users in the vicinity. Facebook's manager of product communications said that the company has not finalized a data for the launch of the service.
