Facebook more popular than Internet in Indonesia
World's largest social networking site, Facebook has attracted a massive 40 million users in the South-East-Asian country of Indonesia. The country has the third largest community of Facebook users in the and interesting, to many users, Faebook is all they use on the Internet. The cheap mobile phones with internet access has made it possible for the users to use the social network with the push of a button without even realizing that they are actually using internet.
Many face book users in the Indonesian archipelago do not use the internet for any other purpose but to access Facebook, which is also available in the national Bahasa language. Internet penetration through computers is low in the country and is at 10 per cent but any people have straight away jumped to using social networking site without accessing other services on the Internet, including other sites on the browser that is used to access Facebook.
About 17 per cent of the population in the country use Facebook, as it is a largely inexpensive way of entertainment for people in this developing nation, which has the largest population of Muslims in the world.
Facebook games have also attracted several users to the site, with a survey showing 65 per cent of the users access games on the social network.
