Facebook gives Messages a face-lift

Facebook gives Messages a face-liftIn a move which has given a much-required face-lift to Facebook’s Messages, the social networking company announced an update to its messaging program on Wednesday, unveiling a two-page layout for the message page.

While the current Messages version requires the Facebook users to open a separate tab to view their previous conversations, the updated message page now unfolds a ‘recent message’ list on the left side, enabling the users to view the entire set of their past chats on the right side.

Moreover, according to the information shared by Facebook, the updated Messages feature – which initially will be rolled out to a small set of users before its eventual expansion worldwide - also gives the users the advantage of using "multiple photos and emoticons" to bring alive their conversations.

In addition to the introduction of the visual upgrades to Messages, Facebook has also attempted to make its search and navigation process much easier for the user by bringing about a few changes, such as allowing the users to search messages with the help of a message keyword or the sender's name.

According to a PC World report, Facebook has added "several keyboard shortcuts" to Messages so as to facilitate the users in composing messages, replying to them, and navigating through their messages.

Noting that Facebook is “rolling out improved features and a new look for messages," Adam Wolff said in a Facebook engineering post: "Behind the scenes, we've also been improving the reliability of messages across the site.”
