F1 legend Senna''s gloves sold for £22k at charity auction
London, Feb 27 : A pair of racing gloves worn by the former champion Ayrton Senna in 1991, when he won his third Formula One title, was sold for 22,000 pound at a charity auction in London.
Former McLaren team co-ordinator Jo Ramirez, a close friend and colleague of the great Brazilian donated the framed gloves, the Sun reports.
They were bought by Gerard Lopez, owner of the current Lotus team that traces its lineage back to the Toleman outfit with whom Senna made his F1 debut in 1984. Senna also raced for Lotus, related only by name to the present team, from 1985-87, the paper reported.
Eleven lots in the auction at the capital''s Royal Opera House raised more than 92,000 pounds for the Grand Prix Mechanics Charitable Trust, chaired by triple champion Sir Jackie Stewart.
At the same event former F1 champions Niki Lauda, Damon Hill and his late father Graham represented by his racing grandson Josh were inducted into Motor Sport magazine''s Hall of Fame. (ANI)
