Essar and Loop officials fail to appear for 2G scam case hearing
Five senior executives of Essar and Loop Telecom, who are accused in the 2G spam, did not appear in the Delhi court on Friday for a scheduled hearing.
Essar Promoter Director Anshuman Ruia, Essar Vice Chairman Ravi Ruia, Essar Group Director (Strategy & Planning) Vikas Saraf, Loop Telecom's Kiran Khaitan and IP Khaitan are the five executives who failed to show up at the court, where they were expected on Friday.
The five had been issued summoned by the special Central Bureau of India (CBI) judge OP Saini in December. However, the lawyers of the executive said that the summons have not been served to the prompters of Essar Group and Loop Telecom.
The five corporate executives were charged under Indian Penal Code Sections 420 and 120(b) after being accused of cheating and criminal conspiracy in one of India’s largest scam involving auction of 2G spectrum at dirt cheap prices by the government.
Delhi High Court had earlier directed Essar, Loop and the CBI on January 24, 2012 to approach the Supreme Court for confirming whether the charges against them could be heard by a magistrate or the special court for the scam.
