E-shopping would increase following security concerns
The body of software and IT services, Assocham said that India can witness a jump in E-shopping for the coming festival season in India. The E-shopping would grow by 180 percent and is expected to touch Rs 15,000 crore marks during Dusshera and Diwali in the metros and large towns like Lucknow and Chandigarh.
The body has sited security as a main reason behind it. India is facing internal security threats and people are afraid of more terror attacks in the forthcoming festival season. This is a major cause of increase in e-shoppers. Besides, some services such as home delivery and 24X7 shopping facility are also a cause for increase in e-shopping.
People prefer to buy electronic gadgets, apparels, travel tickets and gift items through e-shopping. The head of Videocon Group of Industries, Venugopal N Dhoot said that gems, jewellery and online book sales would also increase in the coming times. This can hit the earning of gems and jewellery stores’.
The chamber said that the overall sale of white goods as well as gold and silver articles is not likely to grow as the input cost has increased. The manufacturers are also not providing discounts on these items for the current season.
