Indian men's hockey team faced defeat in the first match of the hockey during Test series against England by 1-3 at Birmingham on Wednesday. Match was played under heavy rain last night.

Ben Hawes, Barry Middleton and Richard Smith scored one goal each for England in 1st, 18th and 68th minute respectively. Dhananjay Mahadik was only scorer for Indian team, who scored goal in 8th minute of the match.

A grand opening ceremony was organized before the start of the match. The Lord Mayor of Birmingham was also present in the ceremony and he was introduced to players of both teams.

England got a perfect start as they scored first goal in first minute of the match. Dhananjay scored equalizer for Indian but England stroked back with two more goals to win the match 3-1.

The second match of the three match series will be played at the University of Birmingham on Friday.
