Elderly cancer patient desperately calls 911 for food
After spending months in hospital undergoing cancer treatment and rehab, Clarence Blackmon came home to an empty refrigerator and had nothing to eat.
The elderly patient was hungry and made a desperate 911 call. For 81-year-old Clarence Blackmon, a simple ham sandwich was a feast of human kindness.
Clarence Blackmon said it was like a little miracle was ringing in his ear, he thought that Jesus has answered those prayers. He is just over 115 pounds and is skin and bones.
He told a dispatcher, “What I need is someone to get to the grocery store and bring me some food because I have to eat something. Whatever you can do to help, I can't do anything, I can't go anywhere, I can't get out of my [expletive] chair”.
That 911 operator, Marilyn Hinson, along with Fayetteville police answered his call for help in person and brought some groceries for him.
She said the old man was hungry. He said he was hungry and many people just can’t say that but he did. Hinson said that she can’t stand to see anyone go hungry.
His need was simple, including a head of cabbage, some cans of beans and beets, popcorn, tomato juice and soft drinks. That much food stuff was more than enough to get him through the next few days.
The old man was not sure that what he will do in future but that day a guardian angel helped him and made sure Blackmon doesn't go to bed hungry. He said that he'll soon get a home nurse who'll be checking up on him twice a week.
