It is being said that worst phase of Ebola outbreak has passed away, but then also, the virus keeps on reappearing in survivors, new patients and press. One of the examples is Pauline Cafferkey, a Scottish nurse, who has served in Sierra Leone when outbreak was on in West Africa.

Nine months after her initial infection and recovery, she was once again having the Ebola virus and now, she is taking treatment at London’s Royal Free Hospital. In the last 24 hours, the Ebola virus has been diagnosed in two people in Guinea.

In the meanwhile, a research paper in the New England Journal of Medicine said that Ebola patients had traces of the virus’s RNA up to nine months after showing initial symptoms. Experts said that even if Ebola survivors do not fall again in the trap of the virus, they suffer from other problems like back pain, hearing loss, meningitis and seizures.

As per the World Health Organization, a region needs to have 42 days of no new case of Ebola virus to be known as Ebola-free. Dan Kelly, an Ebola researcher at UC San Francisco, said that the WHO may need to rethink the length of time of a region to be called as Ebola-free.

Considering from the researchers’ point of view, they can now have better view of the disease and may lead to cures.
