Easter service fire leaves three people hurt, one of them in critical condition
Officials have informed that three parishioners of a Knoxville, Tenn., church burned in an accident at Easter services were being treated at a Nashville burn center.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reported on Monday that the three were injured Saturday night at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church during the blessing of the Easter fire, involving the lighting of a mixture of alcohol and mineral salts in a large bowl.
The newspaper also said that the fire flashed and ignited the robes of Deacon Joseph Hieu Vinh, his daughter Trang Vinh and Patrick Connelley. All three suffered burns to their faces and upper bodies.
While Hieu Vinh was listed in critical condition at Vanderbilt Medical Center, Trang Vinh and Connelley were reported to be in stable condition.
Deacon Sean Smith, chancellor for the Diocese of Knoxville, visited the three Sunday and said their "spirits are all very good."
Smith said, "As soon as I walked in, (Hieu Vinh) had a great smile. They've got the whole diocese praying for them, and it seems to be working, they're getting better each day." (With Inputs from Agencies)
