Dokic in the money thanks to fairytale run to quarters
Melbourne - Jelena Dokic made more than a run to glory with her surprise Australian Open quarter-final. The comeback player also headed straight for the bank - the result of a new 680,000-dollar sponsor contract.
The 25-year-old, who nearly quit the game two years ago due to depression after a flame-out as a teenaged star and a split with her dominating father, has signed a deal with Australia's Jetstar airlines.
The three-year pact will not reportedly require any television advert work, but Dokic has already posed for a publicity photo for the Qantas subsidiary.
In addition, she also get free flights within the island continent.
Dokic's fairytale run was must-see TV, drawing huge ratings through her loss to Dinara Safina in the last eight this week.
Her handlers indicate that she has also received offers for interviews from Australia's gossip-hungry women's magazines, which have been knocked back.
Dokic, after banking more than 150,000 in prize money over the fortnight, is back on her financial feet and aiming for an appearance for Australia at the Fed Cup zonal event in Perth next week. (dpa)
