Middle-order hard-hitting batsman Chamara Kapugedara has been selected as the vice-captain for the match.

Controversial fast bowler Lasith Malinga has been included to the 15 man squad. Due to a knee injury, Malinga had remained out for almost a year from the team. The fast bowler played his last match in February 2008 in an ODI against Australia in Melbourne.

Chamara Silva, who was dropped from the side last year, will the part of the pace-battery in the Sri Lankan bowling attack. Another pacer Indika de Saram, who had done extremely well domestic cricket this season, has also been included in the squad.

Along with the skipper Mahela Jayawardene, the Lankan selectors had also decided to drop other senior players like Kumar Sangakkara, spinners Muttiah Muralitharan and Ajantha Mendis from the T-20 match.

However, the selectors have decided not to make any change for the remaining two ODI matches to be played on Thursday and Sunday against India. In the ongoing 5 match ODI series, Sri Lanka has lost all the 3 matches played so far.
