Developers say they had warned Apple about “shockingly bad” iOS Maps app
While the debacle of the home-bred Maps app for the iOS 6 may appear to the casual observers as an incident which took Apple completely by surprise, some recent reports have revealed that the company apparently had enough beforehand warning about the problematic issues with its embarrassing Maps app.
According to a CNET report, based on the information shared by unidentified sources, developers had started voicing their complaints with regard to the iOS 6's Maps app within days of the availability of the first pre-release version in June.
As per the report, the developers said that they had filed bug requests, and corresponded with some Apple employees via emails about the poor quality of the Maps app. Moreover, some of the developers also vented out their disappointment with the app through their posts on message boards which could be seen only by Apple and other developers.
Although most developers requested anonymity while revealing that they had warned Apple about the Maps app, they still agreed that the issues in the app were well-documented among developers, who had access to four pre-release versions of iOS 6 software before the last-month announcement of its general availability to the public.
Noting that most developers felt that the Maps app was "shockingly bad," one developer t6old CNET: "What was needed wasn't so much an interface for reporting a single point as incorrect, but for selecting an entire region and saying 'all of this -- it's wrong'."
