Death toll in China floods rises to 40
Beijing - The death toll from floods and landslides caused by heavy rains in south-western China rose to 40 on Wednesday, the official Xinhua news agency quoted local officials as saying.
The government of the province Yunnan also said six people were still missing and 42 were injured.
Around 1.25 million people are affected, thousands of houses were destroyed and direct economic losses reached 746 million yuan (108 million dollars), the agency said.
The remnants of tropical storm Kammuri struck 11 prefectures and cities in Yunnan in from Thursday to Monday, the heavy rains causing landslides and floods. (dpa)
