Deadlock Between Players & ECB!
After failing to strike a deal in the Indian Premier League
(IPL), it seems that England
and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is all set to face a potential players' revolt in
the coming days.
According to some media reports, Kevin Pietersen, Andrew Flintoff and Paul
Collingwood have already made it clear that they want to participate in the IPL.
However, the board thinks the other way. The deadlock between the board and
players might result in Kevin Pietersen and co refusing to sign their central
contracts.
Earlier, the talks between IPL chairman Lalit Modi and ECB chairman David
Collier and CEO Giles Clarke failed, leading much to the frustration among the players.
In a press release, an agent, who represents some top players in the side said,
“If the players are denied the chance to play in the IPL, then Clarke is going
to feel their wrath, no question.”
"Clarke seems to be playing hardball with Modi when he has no bullets to
fire. He has been backed into a terrible corner," he added.
The IPL has already made it clear that England's players would be welcome
only if they commit to a substantial number of games and not the 15 days that the
ECB is offering. On the other hand, ECB wants Kevin Pietersen & Co play in
the IPL for just about 15-20 days.
Speaking on this, Modi said, “There is no sense in England players playing in the IPL
for just two weeks.”
The way talks have failed, it now seems that the participation of the English
players next April's IPL looks highly unlikely.
However, the IPL and the ECB officials could talk again in the coming couple of
weeks but with the wait getting longer by the day for players, it is likely
that may try some arm-twisting tactics of their by refusing to sign central
contracts.
