Davenport career continues with Australian Open entry
Melbourne - Lindsay Davenport will keep her tennis career alive at age 32 after entering the 2009 Australian Open, organisers announced on Thursday,
The Californian had been on the fence about her future in recent months, last playing at the US Open and losing early.
But after pondering her situation with her husband over recent months, the 2000 champion at Melbourne Park will be entering her 11th edition at Melbourns Park from January 11.
"We are really excited that she has entered," said tournament director Craig Tiley, "She's a world-class player and a great ambassador for our sport."
Davenport had a poor showing a year ago, losing in the second round to eventual champion Maria Sharapova. The mother of an infant son, currently ranks 35th on the WTA. (dpa)
