Via Darjeeling: Movie Review!
Directed by Arindam Nandy, Via Darjeeling is a psychological thriller, which is produced by Moxie Entertainments and co-produced by National Film Development Corp.
Starring Kay Kay Menon, Sonali Kulkarni, Vinay Pathak, Rajat Kapur, Simone Singh, Proshant Narayanan and Sandhya Mridul, the story of the movie revolves around a newly married couple on their honeymoon and the mysteries surrounding them.
Kay Kay Menon and Sonali Kulkarni play honeymooning pair as Ankur and Rimli Sharma who’re enjoying the beauties of Darjeeling.
On the last day of their journey, Ankur suddenly disappears. The mystery returns to Calcutta one night…via Darjeeling.
Robin Bose (played by Vinay Pathak) makes entry as the police inspector is unable to solve the case, and heads back to Calcutta.
After a few years, the inspector is at a friend’s home where, over drinks, he tells the whole incident to friends who’re fascinated by the events of the story, and begin to create their own interpretations of the story as a lark.
These friends – played by Rajat Kapur, Simone Singh, Proshant Narayanan and Sandhya Mridul – each turn up with a different take on the story, and keep each other amused and engaged with their personal stories.
What starts off as an interesting thriller turns too boring as the focus shifts from Ankur and Rimli's tale to the arguing and rambling of these drinking pals?
The movie writers waste more and more time setting up the dynamics of the kinships among these friends rather than diving straight into their stories.
The story lacks imagination, which fail to deliver credible performances. Kay Kay Menon is top class as is Vinay Pathak, both of whom overshadow everyone else in this ensemble film.
Perhaps Arindam Nandy, the debutante director has gone far too ahead in telling this tale of woes, sadly making it lack-lustre.
